Murphy usually has excellent weather throughout the year, but sometimes you just can’t avoid rain during your family getaway. Fortunately, our Murphy NC cabins have everything you need to keep the vacation fun going when the weather doesn’t cooperate! Here are a few of our favorite rainy day activities:

1. Create vacation bingo cards.
This is especially fun if it rains during the first day or two of your vacation. Come up with lists of things you all hope to see — animals, plants, anything you can think of. Compile all the lists together and make them into bingo cards or a scavenger hunt list. When the weather clears up, you will have an extra game to play together as you explore the mountains!
2. Bake and decorate cupcakes.
All of our Murphy NC cabins come with fully equipped kitchens, so you can spend a rainy day making a special treat with your family. Our cabins are just a short drive from town, so you can easily pick up all of the baking supplies you need. Buy little tubes of icing and encourage everyone in the family to creatively decorate their own cupcakes. Make sure not to eat any until the end of the day, when you can all judge each other’s cupcakes and vote on a winner.
3. Build forts.
Gather all the couch cushions, mattresses, blankets, and pillows in your cabin, and build a cozy fort in the living room that you can stay in all day. Little children will especially get a kick out of this, but as you try to build more and more elaborate forts, even the older kids will be able to enjoy it as well.
Telling stories around the campfire is a time-honored tradition. Be a part of that tradition in front of your cabin’s fireplace! Turn it into a game where everyone tells the silliest story they can, or take turns telling a long epic fairy tale. Don’t forget to write your story down! You may find that this becomes the bedtime story your kids demand from now on.
