Murphy has lots to offer while you are here visiting. You can enjoy the mountain scenery and learn about our mountain heritage. One great place to do both is the famous John C. Campbell Folk School. The schools was founded in the early 1900’s and you can experience classes, workshops, dances, concerts, festivals, and much more! The school sits on a 372 acre campus and has been named as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places. See pottery, basket weaving, blacksmithing, carving and more. This is a great place to come take classes or tour for a day and see the gift shop.
Another great palce to experience while in Murphy is Fields of the Woods. This is a bible theme park West of Murphy and it is open Sunrise to Sunset everyday. The park is set in a beautiful natural wooded setting and an entire mountainside portrays the Ten Commandments written in stone.

If your looking for history on Murphy and the surrounding area’s visit the Cherokee County Museum, here are lots of Indian artifacts, early American tools and exhibits of past mountain life. Bring the family for a great fun learning experience. Also walk just down the street to the beautiful marble courthouse. The Cherokee County Courthouse is made of unique Regal Blue Marble and was built with local stone that came from right here in our area from a community called – Marble.
If sports is your thing, but you want to experience the great outdoors here – then bring the clubs! There are numerous golf courses in the area. Cherokee Hills Golf Course is right here in Murphy, a great 18 hole course. And when you finish, have a great diner in the clubhouse – The Longhouse. Other courses in the area are The Ridges, Butternut Creek and Chatuge Shores all in Hayesville in Hayesville, NC. Copper Basin Golf Course in Copperhill, TN. and Brasstown Valley in Young Harris, GA. At all of these nice courses you can see the beauty of the Smoky Mountains while battling the course.
Also, Whitewater Rafting is a must while visting Murphy. Two rivers close by offer fun and exciting rapids. The Nantahala River in the Nantahala Gorge just east of Murphy offers a cool and trilling ride. The other is the Ocoee River in Tennessee, just a short drive West of Murphy. The Ocoee was the 1996 site of the Summer Olympics for rafting. Both of these rivers will give you lots of excitement and you’ll want to come back again and again.
